Conservation & Cultivation of our Australian Native Orchids

Why orchids?
They are sexy (especially to certain wasps) and we can love them to death.
But more importantly their presence is a significant indicator of the health of our bushland. They are often the first to disappear and it takes a lot more work to restore them.
NOSSA has many activities that contribute to the preserving and increasing our understanding of our native orchids.
BUT as an organization based entirely upon volunteers, we need help to carry out this care.
We are looking for volunteers with varied skill sets. Orchid knowledge is not essential as that will grow as you get involved.
Type of Volunteers

- Conservation Work
Working with our Conservation Officer, this involves weeding or surveys of sensitive sites located within the state at different times of the year. - Les Nesbitt Propagation Facility
This site is still being prepared
Working with our Facility Manager, this involves the cultivation of our orchids from seed in laboratory setting to caring for the plants in the shadehouse.
- Events Support
We are looking for assistance with community events, our annual spring show and other special events.
2027 will be our 50th anniversary and we need assistance with planning. - Administration
Administration is the heartbeat that keeps the group functioning. So we are looking for help with all things administrative, communications and basic day-to-day operations.
